Blog 3, Chapter 5:
The most shocking event that takes place in Chapter 5, is seeing Gatsby react around Daisy. Up until this point, Gatsby has been known to be extremely confident in himself, outgoing, ambitious, and mysterious. But, even with the mention of Daisy, he becomes the opposite of himself. Around Daisy, Gatsby is extremely awkward, shy, and skittish. He has a hard time holding conversation with Daisy, let alone entertaining her. Not to mention the stutters, shakes, and sweating around her too. Nick is absolutely dumbfounded over this sudden transformation Gatsby quickly goes through, and doesn't quite know how to deal with it. Nick even tells Gatsby, "You're acting like a little boy", because his behavior is so uncharacteristic. The only explanation Nick gets from both Daisy and Gatsby, is that they'd met previously 5 years age. This only leads to many conclusions about their relationship. Fortunately, their awkwardness clears up as the tea date progresses, as Gatsby and Daisy seem to hit it off. At this point, nick leaves them alone and leaves.
As for my prediction on their relationship, I think that Gatsby and Daisy were definitely in love in the past, and something separated them in the last 5 years. I'm pretty sure Daisy was forced into marrying Tom and was separated from Gatsby unwillingly. i can also predict Gatsby and Daisy falling in love again throughout the book. i also predict this encouraging Daisy to stand up to Tom and becoming independent.
